Ontario Water Ski Instructors' Course The 35th annual Ontario Water Ski Instructors' Course (OWSIC) will be held from Saturday, June 15th through Thursday, June 20th in Sundridge, Ontario. The program provides training in the safest and most advanced methods of teaching water skiing and is unique in providing an outstanding student-teacher ratio and an excellent quality of instruction. Many camps and ski schools across Canada require their instructors to attend OWSIC. "OWSIC is the only accredited program which provides students with in-boat driver training and practical skills teaching," says new OWSIC director Trish Kaliciak. Expert instruction in all aspects of teaching water skiing is offered. All OWSIC participants become fully certified Level 1 coaches under the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). In addition, students are evaluated through written, oral and practical examinations to be eligible for Level 1, 2 or 3 OWSIC Awards of Merit. Participants must be at least 16 years of age (as of June 1, 1996) and must be able to demonstrate the equivalent of Bronze Medallion swimming requirements (ie. 400 yards continuous swimming). The program fee is $440, which includes GST, all meals, accommodation, instruction, materials and a current OWSA membership. More information and application forms may be obtained from the Ontario Water Ski Association or by calling (416) 426-7092. Deadline for written application is June 1. After this date, please call the OWSA for more information.
