BAREFOOTING IN ONTARIO By Brock Cromwell, Chairman OWSA Barefoot Committee n January 30, 1996, the Ontario Barefoot Committee was formed and the following positions filled: Chairman Brock Cromwell Secretary Ken Thompson Treasurer Mike Spence Event Day Co-ordinator Jim Harper Funding Co-ordinators Geoff Mitchell Dan Fiorini Ron Raymer Steve Raymer Nationals Co-ordinators Steve Thompson Brock Cromwell Jump Co-ordinator Rob Doherty Associate Bruce Lonnenberg Associate Frank Valle Associate Mike Terry Associate Karyn Cromwell Scarpa The mandate of this committee is to encourage the participation of barefoot water skiing in Ontario; particularly at the junior level, as well as assist and run tournaments, clinics and act as information co-ordinators at the provincial, national and world level. Our funding committee headed up by Geoff Mitchell and Dan Fiorini have come up with some innovative ideas and in their first three weeks have $1,300 committed from various sponsors, which will go a long way to supporting our clinics and tournaments. We have been working very closely with Louis Simard of the Quebec Federation and have put together a very exciting series of events and clinics. We would also like to stress the importance of obtaining your competitive provincial and national licence as soon as possible. Ontario licences may be obtained from the OWSA. Cost is $60 until Apr. 30; $65 after May 1st. Family licences are $80 until Apr. 30 and $85 after May 1st. National licences are available from Water Ski Canada at Promenade James Naismith Dr., Gloucester, Ontario K1B 5N4 and cost $30. These licences must be obtained at least one week prior to the Easterns and the Nationals. The competitive licences are over and above the tournament entry fees. The entry fees for the Easterns & Nationals are $80 before June 1st; $110 the day of the event. The Canadian Challenge fees are $40 before June 1st and $60 the day of the event. There is no charge for the Junior and Novice Tournament on July 12. Tournament packages for the Easterns, Nationals and Canadian Challenge are $150 and may be obtained from the OWSA. All tournament entry fees should be made payable to The Ontario Barefoot Committee. (Please send your OWSA and Water Ski Canada Licence numbers along with your entry fees.)
