Short Lines TAKE THE PORAT CHALLENGE Bob Porat of Saskatoon is the new chair of Water Ski Canada's Mar- keting Committee, replacing Ontar- io's Andy Murdison, who recently stepped down. Bob has issued a challenge to all WSC (OWSA) members for the 1994 season: (1) Introduce a friend to the sport by taking them for a ski, and (2) sign up one new member for OWSA/WSC. As Bob says, "If you do this, we will double our membership...it isn't very much to ask, costs next to nothing, and only requires being nice to two people." So do it! ONTARIANS ON CANADIAN BAREFOOT TEAM Canada's Barefoot team will com- pete in the World Championships in Australia next month with Ontarians Laurie Bernstein, Mike Terry and Kyle Kraajeveld as part of the team. CORN-WALL PROG- RESS Work is proceeding on the Cornwall ski lake reported on in the Winter Short Lines. Jean Luc Cardinal, who is developing the site, recently received positive test results on the soil and is moving toward closing the deal to purchase the property. The lake itself has been designed by Derek Kuhn (you may recognize the name from Stowaway Ski Club) based on Ken Nelson's Shalom Park in Edmonton. All going well with the purchase, excavation will begin in the spring and skiing in late summer remains a possibility. FUND OF EXCELLENCE Ontario has reached 61% of its target of 23 Patron members to the Fund of Excellence. That leaves 39% - or 9 more contributors to keep on target. British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia have all reached or surpassed their targets. Come on, Ontarians, let's support our national team. Ontario benefits too, as $50 of your $250 donation comes back to this province. In return for your donation of $250, you'll receive a tax receipt for the full amount, a personalized plaque recognizing your support, a com- memorative certificate signed by our GOLD MEDAL winning team in Singapore, recognition in Ski Nau- tique News and a special edition gold pin.
